The Primitive Strip Quilt

I started this primitive strip quilt
way back in April of 2015.
Lots of strips made with mostly
vintage Brannock and Patek fabrics.

I machine quilted it this past week...not an easy task
as it's quite large and bulky.
I just machine quilted in the ditch around each panel
and a few strips if the panel was large.

My quilt is based on a 1930 African American quilt from
the book Ultimate Quilting Book by
Maggie McCormick Gordon.

Dance...

Dance...

like...

nobody's...

watching!

I was watching and I was very impressed...
the female Grosbeak he was courting, not so much.

When....

When you're this little...

You only need a tiny bit of batting for your nest.

The Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels...

Lots of predators this time of year so...

these little guys are on alert.

Yes, I saw them, too...a Coyote and a Fox
within minutes of each other.
I was as shocked as you.

Two sets of eyes and ears...

When she holds this posture you can see how
how beautiful her markings are...
The "picket pin posture"....
allows them to see long distances and the posture
helps them to use their hearing ability better.

Early settlers call them "picket pins" for this type of posture
because from a distance they look like
stakes that had been driven into the ground.
